Rooibos is the perfect tea for busy mums: rich in ascorbic acid, it has a high level of anti-oxidants, and the ginger and cinnamon help to combat low vitality and to improve circulation. It is becoming more popular in Western countries, particularly among health-conscious consumers, due to its high level of antioxidants such as aspalathin and nothofagain, its lack of caffeine and its low tannin levels compared to fully oxidised black tea or unoxidized green tea leaves. Rooibos also contains some other phenolic compounds, including flavonols, flavones, flavanones, and dihydrochalcones.
